一個科學家搭乘往紐約的火車, 和他在同車廂的另一個旅客是位貧窮的農夫. 為了打發搭乘的時間, 科學家決定和這位農夫玩個遊戲. "I will ask you a question and if you get it wrong, you have to pay me 1 dollar. Then you ask me a question, and if I get it wrong, you get 10 dollars. You ask me a question first." The farmer thinks for a while. "我問你一個問題, 如果你答錯了, 你給我一塊錢. 然後你問我一個問題, 但如果我答錯了, 你得到10塊錢! 你先問我問題吧！" 科學家說. "I know. What has three legs, takes 10 hours to climb up a palm tree, and 10 seconds to get back down?" "我知道了. 什麼東西有3條腿, 他需要花10個小時爬上棕櫚葉樹, 但只花10秒鐘爬下來?" 農夫問道. The scientist is confused and thinks long and hard about the question. Finally, the train ride is coming to an end. As it pulls into the station, the scientist takes out 10 dollars and gives it to the farmer. 科學家對此題目感到非常的困惑, 花費很長一段時間地努力的思考這個問題. 最後火車已經快要抵達車站了. 於是, 科學家拿出10塊錢給農夫. "I don't know. What has 3 legs, takes 10 hours to get up a palm tree and 10 seconds to get back down?" "我不知道有什麼東西有3條腿, 他需要花10個小時爬上棕櫚葉樹, 但只花10秒鐘爬下來?" 科學家回答 The farmer takes the 10 dollars and puts it into his pocket.
